Perry leaves Ducks game vs. Wild with injury

MINNEAPOLIS -- Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry missed the final 2 1/2 periods Friday against the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center with a lower-body injury, and his status moving forward remains undetermined.

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said there was no further update on Perry immediately after the game, but that he was expected to travel with the team to Winnipeg, where Anaheim will practice Saturday before a game Sunday against the Winnipeg Jets.

"I know probably what [the media] knows, which is it is a lower-body injury," Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said. "We could all tell where he got hit. We'll see more and we'll know more tomorrow."

Perry was knocked into the boards along the right wall on a hip check by Minnesota defenseman Keith Ballard with the Ducks on the power play at 9:37 of the first period. Perry, who was favoring his left leg after the hit, needed assistance to leave the ice and immediately left the bench for further evaluation.

Perry has a team-high 14 goals and 22 points in 22 games this season. He missed five games last month because he contracted the mumps virus. That's the most Perry has missed at one time since losing 15 games to a lacerated quad tendon in 2008.

He had two points in six games after returning from the illness, but had five in the three games prior to Friday. After the morning skate Friday, Perry said he was finally starting to feel 100 percent healthy in the past few days.

Without Perry, Boudreau was forced to consistently shuffle his forward lines while playing with 11 forwards. The Ducks were leading 1-0 at the time of Perry's injury and ended up defeating the Wild 5-4.

"We've been without him before already this season and we have the depth in the organization to fill those roles," Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf said. "It's not one that is going to fill Perry's void. He's a goal scorer on our team and he does a lot of good things for us. We'll have to collectively do it."

If Perry is unable to play in Winnipeg, the Ducks could add Chris Wagner to the lineup, or recall someone from Norfolk of the American Hockey League. Rickard Rackell and William Karlsson each has played with Anaheim this season. So too has Emerson Etem, but he is out of the lineup with the Admirals because of the mumps.

One player who has also been a goal-scorer for the Ducks this season is Matt Beleskey, who scored the winning goal Friday against Minnesota. He has 13, one behind Perry for the team lead.

"Matty has been playing great," Getzlaf said. "He's been working hard and doing the right things. He's always had a great shot, but this year he seems to be having a knack for finding the right areas at the right times and he's scoring goals for us."
