The New York Islanders have recalled 2013 first-round draft pick Ryan Pulock from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis.
In 20 games with the Sound Tigers, Pulock, 20, has eight goals, seven on the power play. His 13 points are tied for eighth among AHL defensemen, first among rookie defensemen.
Earlier in the day, defenseman Travis Hamonic was placed on injured reserve because of an upper-body injury.
The move was made retroactive to Dec. 2, when Hamonic sustained the injury during a game against the Ottawa Senators.
Hamonic has six points and 48 penalty minutes in 21 games this season. He's second on the Islanders in average time on ice per game at 21:01.
The Islanders also are without defenseman Johnny Boychuk, who remains day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky (upper body) was at practice Friday; he has been out of the lineup since Nov. 28.
The Islanders play Saturday at home against the St. Louis Blues.
