Alfredsson on Thursday announced his retirement from professional hockey.

Here are some key dates as we look back at No. 11:

June 29, 1994 -- Selected in the sixth round (No. 133) of the NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators.

Oct. 7, 1995 -- Made his NHL debut, getting his first point (an assist) in a 3-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Oct. 13, 1995 -- Scored his first goal in his second game, against Mark Fitzpatrick of the Florida Panthers in a 6-3 loss.

End of the 1995-96 season -- Was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's top rookie after appearing in all 82 games for Ottawa and leading the Senators in goals (25), assists (36) and points (61).

Jan. 11, 1997 -- Got his 100th point in his 123rd game, a 3-3 tie against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Feb. 13, 1998 -- Made his Olympic debut for Sweden in a 4-2 victory against the United States.

Oct. 2, 1999 -- Named the seventh captain in Senators history.

Nov. 3, 2003 -- Got his 500th point in a 6-3 loss to the New York Islanders.

March 29, 2004 -- Became the Senators' all-time leader in goals, scoring his 219th in a 5-4 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

May 28, 2007 -- Became the first European-born captain in the NHL to appear in a Stanley Cup Final.

Jan. 24, 2008 -- Set a Senators single-game record for points with seven (three goals, four assists) in an 8-4 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Oct. 22, 2010 -- Got his 1,000th point with a hat-trick goal in a 4-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres.

April 28, 2013 -- Played his final-regular season game as a member of the Ottawa Senators, winning 4-2 at the Boston Bruins.

May 24, 2013 -- Played his final game for the Ottawa Senators, losing 6-2 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

April 4, 2014 -- As a member of the Detroit Red Wings, scored his last career goal (No. 444) in a 3-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres.

April 11, 2014 -- Played his final regular-season game (No. 1,246) with the Detroit Red Wings, a 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

April 26, 2014 -- Played his final NHL game, a 4-2 loss in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Boston Bruins.

Dec. 4, 2014 -- Announced his retirement.
