QMJHL Roundup: Clapperton's hat trick leads Oceanic to 8-2 rout over Islanders

CHARLOTTETOWN - Christopher Clapperton scored three times and Alexis Loiseau had a goal and three assists to power the Rimouski Oceanic past the Charlottetown Islanders 8-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action on Sunday.

Anthony DeLuca and Samuel Morin had a goal and an assist apiece for the Oceanic (18-7-2), while Francois Beauchemin rounded out the offence. Jan Kostalek and Anthony Chapados chipped in with two assists each.

Daniel Sprong struck twice for the Islanders (13-12-2) — once in the second period and again in the third.

Rimouski goaltender Olivier Tremblay stopped 29 shots in the victory.

Mason McDonald started in net for Charlottetown, giving up five goals on 14 shots through 25:19. Daryl MacCallum stopped 11-of-14 shots the rest of the way.

The Oceanic were 1 for 3 on the power play, while Charlottetown failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

REMPARTS 6 DRAKKAR 2

QUEBEC CITY — Adam Chapman scored twice and Adam Erne had three assists to lead the Remparts past Baie-Comeau.

Massimo Carozza, Guillaume Gauthier and Marcus Cuomo had a goal and an assist apiece for Quebec (17-9-0), while Dmytro Timashov rounded out the Remparts' attack.

Maxime St-Cyr opened up the scoring for the Drakkar (17-7-3) with his 24th goal of the season. Jasmin Boutet added another on the power play with 45 seconds remaining.

MOOSEHEADS 4 WILDCATS 3

HALIFAX — Nikolaj Ehler's goal at 12:04 of the first period proved to be the winner as the Mooseheads held off a Moncton comeback for the victory.

Danny Moynihan, Kelly Bent and Matt Murphy also scored for Halifax (11-12-3), which led 4-1 after the opening 20 minutes.

Stephen Johnson opened the scoring for the Wildcats (15-10-1). Ivan Barbashev added a power-play goal in the second period and Zachary Malatesta found the back of the net early in the third to pull Moncton to within a goal.

ARMADA 3 TITAN 1

BOISBRIAND, Que. — Philippe Sanche struck twice to lead the Armada over Acadie-Bathurst.

Nikita Jevpalovs added an empty-net power-play goal for Blainville-Boisbriand (14-7-3) with nine seconds to play.

Raphael Corriveau opened the scoring with a power-play goal for the Titan (8-17-2), who were outshot 36-12.

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Julien Gauthier scored 1:58 into overtime to lift Val-d'Or over the Sagueneens.

Anthony Richard had a hat trick in regulation for the Foreurs (10-13-4) and Vytal Cote and Owen Bennington also scored.

Janne Puhakka struck twice Chicoutimi (9-14-2), and Laurent Dauphin, Carl Tremblay and Nicolas Roy each had a goal and an assist apiece.

HUSKIES 3 TIGRES 2

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. — Allan Caron broke a tie with 17 seconds remaining in regulation to power Rouyn-Noranda over the Tigres.

Julie Nantel scored twice for the Huskies (14-10-2), including a short-handed goal that tied the game 2-2 at 5:34 of the third period.

Angelo Miceli had a goal and an assist for Victoriaville (13-10-3) and Samuel Blais also scored.
