Leafs' Roman Polak leaves Saturday's game against Detroit with lower-body injury

TORONTO - Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Roman Polak left Saturday's game against the Detroit Red Wings after suffering a lower-body injury and will not return.

The 28-year-old blue liner delivered a hit on Detroit's Tomas Tatar in the corner of his own end to the left of goaltender Jonathan Bernier midway through the second period, but fell awkwardly with his left leg caught underneath his body. Tatar got up first while Polak stayed down on the ice in pain.

After being attended to by medical staff, Polak had to be assisted off the ice by teammates because he was unable to put any weight on his left foot.

Tatar scored his ninth goal of the season to tie the game 1-1 moments after getting up while Polak was still down on the ice.

Polak was a minus-1 in 8:22 of ice time to go along with the one hit.
