Kings' Voynov charged with felony domestic violence
Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov was charged with a felony count of domestic violence on Thursday.

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov was charged with a felony count of domestic violence on Thursday.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney office charged Voynov with one count of corporal injury to a spouse with great bodily injury.

Arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 in Department 4 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Torrance Branch.

The NHL suspended Voynov with pay immediately after his arrest on Oct. 20.

"We maintain our support of the NHL’s indefinite suspension of Slava Voynov," the Kings said in a statement Thursday. "As an organization we will continue to closely monitor the developments of the legal proceedings and work in partnership with the NHL to determine the proper course of action in the future."

Voynov was arrested at a hospital in Torrance, Calif., where his wife was being treated for injuries from the alleged incident. After an investigation, Voynov was taken into custody. He was released on a $50,000 bond later that day.

According to the DA's office release, Voynov faces a possible maximum sentence of nine years in state prison if convicted as charged.

"We are aware of the actions taken today in California, which we will review and evaluate before making any decisions," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in a statement Thursday. "Until further notice, the current terms of Mr. Voynov's suspension remain in place."

The case remains under investigation by the Redondo Beach Police Department.

"Mr. Voynov is extremely disappointed that the district attorney's office elected to file charges," Craig Renetzky, Voynov's attorney, said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "Mr. Voynov maintains his innocence and looks forward to clearing his name in court. We remain confident."
