Blackhawks' van Riemsdyk has successful surgery
Chicago Blackhawks' Trevor van Riemsdyk out 3-4 months.

Chicago Blackhawks rookie defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk had surgery Thursday to repair a left patella fracture, the team announced.

"Trevor underwent successful surgery today to repair his left patella fracture," said Dr. Michael, the Blackhawks head physician. "The procedure went very well and I anticipate a full recovery in 3-4 months."

Van Riemsdyk, 23, was injured after taking a shot to the knee during a game Sunday against the Dallas Stars.

Signed as a free agent on March 24, van Riemsdyk has one assist in 18 games. In three seasons at the University of New Hampshire, he had 16 goals and 75 points.
