CLOSE GAMES HIGHLIGHT SATURDAY'S ACTION

Of the 12 games contested Saturday:

* Ten were tied or within one goal entering the third period.

* Eight saw the winning club overcome a deficit at any point in the game, including one third-period comeback that led to a win when the Los Angeles Kings beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in overtime.

* Seven featured one-goal margins, including two that went past regulation, the Kings' defeat of the Ducks and the Pittsburgh Penguins' 3-2 shootout win against the New York Rangers.

* Five saw the game-winning goal scored in the third period, including two decisive goals in the final three minutes of regulation; the Colorado Avalanche's Matt Duchene at 17:07 against the New Jersey Devils, and the Nashville Predators' Craig Smith at 17:58 against the Winnipeg Jets.

HABS ROLL TO FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau scored twice, including the game-winning goal at 1:02 of the third period as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 for their fifth consecutive victory. Montreal owns the League's longest active winning streak and ranks first in the League with 27 points (13-4-1).

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Canadiens have won eight of their first 10 home games (8-2-0) for the first time since 1992-93 when they started 8-1-1 on home ice. In addition, the Canadiens have won 13 of their first 18 games for the first time since 1991-92, when they also began the season with a 13-4-1 record.

* Alex Galchenyuk set a career high with three assists to match his best single-game points total (Oct. 11, 2013 vs. the New York Islanders). He has three goals and six assists n seven career games against the Flyers.

* Newly acquired defenseman Sergei Gonchar had two assists to reach 800 career NHL points (219 goals, 581 assists in 1,258 games). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Gonchar is the only Russian-born defenseman to reach the 800-point milestone.

* According to Elias, the Canadiens had eight players with at least two points for the first time since Apr. 9, 1994 against the Pittsburgh Penguins: Galchenyuk, Parenteau, Gonchar, Dale Weise (career-best two goals), David Desharnais (one goal, one assist), Max Pacioretty (two assists), Tomas Plekanec (two assists) and Andrei Markov (two assists).

* Montreal converted on 100 percent of its power-play opportunities, scoring three goals with the man advantage for the first time since March 1, 2012 against the Minnesota Wild, when the Canadiens went 3-for-7. The Canadiens had scored on four of 47 power-play attempts (8.5 percent) through its first 17 games.

* Carey Price improved to 11-3-1 this season and surpassed Bill Durnan for sole possession of fourth on the Canadiens' all-time games played list among goaltenders (384).

VORACEK TAKES SCORING LEAD

Flyers forward Jakub Voracek had two assists to stretch his point streak to a career-high 10 games. He has five goals and 14 assists during his streak and he took sole possession of the League lead in assists (19) and points (26). Voracek has eight multi-point games during his current point streak and has three goals and 13 assists in 15 career games against the Canadiens.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Voracek is the first player in Flyers history to have at least eight multipoint games in a 10-game span. He also is the first Flyers player with a 10-game point streak since Mark Recchi from Feb. 25 to Mar. 19, 2001 (11 games).

* The last Flyers players with at least 26 points through Philadelphia's first 16 games were Peter Forsberg (31 points) and Simon Gagne (26) in 2005-06.

BLUES MAKE IT 10 WINS IN 11 GAMES

Jaden Schwartz assisted on Jori Lehtera's opening goal and then scored the eventual game-winner as the Blues beat the Washington Capitals 4-1 for their 10th win in 11 games.

* Schwartz (six games) and Lehtera (seven games), two-thirds of the "STL Line," each extended their point streaks while linemate Vladimir Tarasenko had his point streak halted at seven games. During the Blues' 10-1-0 stretch that line has combined for 18 goals, 23 assists, a plus-34 rating and four game-winning goals.

* Kevin Shattenkirk had a multi-assist game for the fifth time this season to stretch his point streak to three games. He is tied with Calgary's Mark Giordano for the assist lead among defenseman. They also are tied for fourth in the NHL in that category.

* Brian Elliott turned aside 24 of 25 shots and now is 7-3-1 with a 1.87 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage in 11 games.

* Patrik Berglund and David Backes each added a goal and an assist.

LIGHTNING STRIKE DOWN ISLANDERS

Ryan Callahan and Valtteri Filppula each had one goal and one assist and Jason Garrison had two assists as the Lightning overcame a 2-1 deficit with four answered goals for a 5-2 win against the Islanders. The Lightning improved to 7-1-1 in their past nine games while halting New York's winning streak at five games.

* Cedric Paquette's fifth goal in his past five games counted as his first career game-winner and Steven Stamkos had an assist to stretch his point streak to five games; he has three goals and three assists during his streak.

* Ben Bishop turned aside 25 shots to improve to 10-2-2 in 15 games. Per Elias, his 10 wins in 15 games makes him the second-fastest goaltender to reach double-digit wins in Lightning history; Bishop owns the record when he started 10-0-0 in 2013-14.

* The Lightning remain the League's highest scoring team (65 goals) and scored at least five goals for the fifth time this season.

* Tampa Bay improved to 11-0-0 when Callahan scores a goal dating to last season when he was acquired from the New York Rangers.

FLAMES CONTINUE STRONG START

The Calgary Flames scored three goals in the third period, including Josh Jooris' first NHL game-winning goal, in a 4-2 win against the Ottawa Senators. Calgary improved to 6-2-1 in its past nine games and 12-5-1 all-time at home against Ottawa.

* Jooris had one goal and one assist to match his single-game NHL high with two points. Lance Bouma and Markus Granlund also had one goal and one assist each.

* Mark Giordano had an assist to push his point streak to nine games, matching the longest stretch of his career set last season from Jan. 14 to Feb. 1. He shares the League lead among defensemen in goals (six) and assists (15), and leads all defensemen with 21 points.

* With 24 points (11-6-2), the Flames are within two points of the Anaheim Ducks for the top spot in the Pacific Division.

KINGS, BRUINS, WILD RALLY FOR MATINEE WINS ...

The Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins and Minnesota Wild all overcame one-goal deficits to win their matinee games:

* Jarret Stoll scored the game-winning goal at 2:19 of overtime to help the Kings beat the Ducks at Staples Center. The Kings trailed twice but capped their comeback in overtime; the win came three days after they surrendered three separate two-goal leads in a shootout loss at Anaheim.

* Stoll's game-winning goal was the 23rd of his regular-season career; his previous one came March 19, 2013, against the Arizona Coyotes). It also was his fourth career regular-season overtime goal, with the others counting for three of his first four career winning goals (Feb. 2 against the Ducks; March 7 against the Chicago Blackhawks; Nov. 17, 2005 against the Detroit Red Wings while playing for the Edmonton Oilers).

* Stoll had one goal and one assist; it was his first multipoint game since Dec. 10, 2013 at the Montreal Canadiens.

* Seth Griffith and Patrice Bergeron scored to erase a one-goal deficit in the first period and Tuukka Rask stopped 33 shots to lift the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Bruins have won five consecutive home games and are 9-3-0 against the Hurricanes at TD Garden since Dec. 20, 2008. Bergeron scored his first game-winner of the season; he scored a career-high seven winning goals in 2013-14.

* Down 1-0 in the second period, Erik Haula tied the score and Mikael Granlund then scored the game-winner 40 seconds into the third period to lift the Wild to a 2-1 win against the Dallas Stars. Minnesota earned its first victory at American Airlines Center since March 25, 2013. It was their fifth ever in Dallas (5-16-6). Ryan Carter had the assist on Haula's goal to stretch his point streak to three games; he has two goals and two assists during his streak.

... PREDS, PENS, AVS DO THE SAME AT NIGHT

The Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins and Colorado Avalanche also overcame deficits to win their Saturday night games:

* James Neal tied the game in the second period and Craig Smith scored his first game-winning goal of the season with 2:02 left in regulation to lift the Predators to a 2-1 win against the Winnipeg Jets. Neal's goal was his team-leading ninth of the season; he has points in four straight games and has 12 goals and 17 points in 15 games against the Jets. Nashville improved to 11-4-2 this season, including 5-2-1 in their past eight games. The Predators share the League lead with seven wins when allowing the first goal this season (7-4-1).

* Evgeni Malkin scored to tie game 2-2 in the second period and Brandon Sutter scored the game-deciding goal in the shootout to lift the Penguins to their fourth straight home win. Pittsburgh improved to 6-0-1 in their past seven regular-season games against the Rangers at Consol Energy Center. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 29 shots and three of four shootout attempts to improve to 18-4-4 in 26 career starts against the Rangers in Pittsburgh.

* Facing a one-goal deficit for the second time in the game, Erik Johnson tied the game at 12:30 of the third period and then Matt Duchene scored the game-winning goal to lift Colorado to 3-2 win at the New Jersey Devils. The Avalanche improved to 6-0-1 in their past seven games against the Devils.

DID YOU KNOW?

* Tyler Toffoli scored his fourth shorthanded goal of the season in the Kings' 18th game to become the fastest player in Kings history to score as many goals while shorthanded. Bernie Nicholls set the previous mark of 26 games in 1988-89 when he finished the season with eight shorthanded goals.

* The last player from any team to score four shorthanded goals within his team's first 18 games was Simon Gagne in 2008-09 with Philadelphia (15 games).

* The Kings now lead the League with five shorthanded goals this season, matching their 82-game total from 2013-14.

MOULSON, ENNIS POWER SABRES PAST LEAFS

Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis each had a goal and two assists as the Buffalo Sabres beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-2. Buffalo improved to 14-1-1 in its past 16 home games against Toronto and scored at least six goals at First Niagara Center for the first time since April 3, 2012 when they defeated Toronto 6-5 in overtime.

* Moulson scored his 14th career goal against Toronto, his highest total against any team; He has 20 points in 21 career games against the Maple Leafs.

* Ennis matched a career high with three points and leads the Sabres with six goals and 12 points.

* Zemgus Girgensons matched a career high with two goals; the last time he scored two in a game was April 8 against the Detroit Red Wings.

* Drew Stafford scored his first game-winning goal since Dec. 19, 2013 against the Boston Bruins.

David Savard and Cam Atkinson propelled the Columbus Blue Jackets a 2-0 lead and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 36 shots in his return from an eight-game absence as Columbus skated to a 2-1 win against the San Jose Sharks. The victory marked the 100th of Bobrovsky's NHL career. … Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg was held off the score sheet for the first time since Oct. 29 but still leads all rookies in goals (eight), assists (12) and points (20), and leads the NHL with a plus-19 rating. ... Despite their loss the Anaheim Ducks have earned a point in seven straight games (3-0-4) with six games decided in overtime or shootout. The Ducks have gone past regulation in five straight games for the first time in franchise history (via Elias). … Nashville Predators coach Peter Laviolette (400) and Montreal Canadiens coach Michel Therrien (300) reached milestones for career wins as an NHL coach. … Ducks forward Ryan Kesler scored to extend his point streak to four games; he has three goals and four assists in that stretch. Sami Vatanen assisted on the goal to push his point streak to five games; he has one goal and five assists during his streak. … Winnipeg Jets forward Blake Wheeler scored his fourth career shorthanded goal and first since April 10, 2010 against the Carolina Hurricanes while he played for the Boston Bruins. … San Jose Sharks forward Joe Thornton pushed his point streak to five games; he has three goals and three assists during his streak.
