Blue Jackets acquire defenseman Leopold from Blues
The Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday acquired defenseman Jordan Leopold from the St. Louis Blues for a fifth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

The Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday acquired defenseman Jordan Leopold from the St. Louis Blues for a fifth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Leopold was acquired by the Blues on March 30, 2013. He had a goal and seven assists in 49 regular-season games and one assist in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games, but was a healthy scratch in nine games this season. He'll provide depth to a Blue Jackets team that will be without defenseman Fedor Tyutin for four to six weeks because of a knee injury.

Selected with the 44th pick by the Anaheim Ducks in the 1999 draft, Leopold has 66 goals and 210 points in 659 NHL games with Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres and Blues.

"We want to thank Jordan for his hard work and dedication while in St. Louis," Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said in a statement. "Jordan is a true professional, and we wish him and his family the best of luck in the future."

The Blues also recalled defenseman Chris Butler from Chicago of the American Hockey League. Butler leads Wolves defensemen with nine points (one goal, eight assists).
