QMJHL Roundup: Garland's six-point night leads Wildcats past Tigres

MONCTON, N.B. - Conor Garland could not be stopped on Friday night.

Garland had a six-point night, including a hat trick, as the Moncton Wildcats blew past the Victoriaville Tigres 8-3 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.

Ivan Barbashev also had a six-point night, scoring twice and adding four assists for the Wildcats (15-8-0). Jacob Sweeney, Liam Murphy and Cameron Askew rounded out the attack for Moncton, which won its fifth straight.

Samuel Blais opened the scoring for Victoriaville (12-7-3) with Yan Pavel Laplante and Gabriel Gagne also chipping in.

Alex Dubeau stopped 27 shots for the win. Francois Tremblay started for the Tigres, but was pulled after making 22-of-28 saves in 38:11 of work. Chase Marchand came in relief and stopped 3-of-4 shots in 20:15.

The Wildcats scored once on three power-play chances while Victoriaville went 2 for 6.

MOOSEHEADS 3 SCREAMING EAGLES 2

HALIFAX — Captain Ryan Falkenham had a go-ahead power-play goal in the second period as the Mooseheads edged Cape Breton.

Samuel Leblanc and Timo Meier also scored for Halifax (9-11-3).

Kyle Farrell and Pierre-Luc Dubois replied for the Screaming Eagles (7-12-4).

TITAN 5 VOLTIGEURS 3

BATHURST, N.B. — Mark Simpson scored his 10th goal of the season in the first period as the Titan got past Drummondville.

Raphael Corriveau, Aaron Kerr, Guillaume Brisebois and Bronson Beaton rounded out the Acadie-Bathurst (7-15-2) offence.

Dylan Montcalm, Alexandre Grand-Maison and Georgs Golovkovs responded for the Voltigeurs (9-10-2), who lost their third straight.

SEA DOGS 2 SAGUENEENS 1

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Mathieu Joseph scored at 18:12 of the third period as Saint John edged the Sagueneens.

Mark Tremaine opened the scoring for the Sea Dogs (14-4-3) with a power-play goal.

Charles Guevremont chipped in with his fifth of the season for Chicoutimi (8-13-1).

ARMADA 2 PHOENIX 1 (SO)

BOISBRIAND, Que. — Nikita Jevpalovs had the lone goal in the shootout as Blainsville-Boisbriand downed Sherbrooke.

Danick Martel scored his 14th goal in regulation on the power play for the Armada (13-6-2).

David Storto replied for the Phoenix (14-7-1) on the power play.

OCEANIC 7 OLYMPIQUES 4

RIMOUSKI, Que. — Anthony DeLuca and Christopher Clapperton each had a pair of goals to lead the Oceanic past Gatineau.

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Frederik Gauthier scored for Rimouski (16-6-2) with Jan Kostalek and Samuel Laberge rounding out the attack.

Louick Marcotte struck twice for the Olympiques (10-10-4), while Alex Dostie and Vaclav Karabacek also found the back of the net.

CATARACTES 5 HUSKIES 4 (OT)

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Samuel Girard scored at 4:04 of overtime to guide Shawinigan over the Huskies.

Anthony Beauvillier struck twice and added an assist for the Cataractes (12-9-2). James Phelan, Dennis Yan and Samuel Girard rounded out the attack.

Danil Dolgushkin, Mathieu Lemay, Julien Nantel and Francis Perron all had goals for Rouyn-Noranda (10-10-2).
