DUCKS RALLY TO BEAT KINGS FOR 'FREEWAY FACEOFF' WIN

The Anaheim Ducks trailed 5-3 with less than six minutes left in regulation – one of three two-goal deficits they faced – before Ryan Kesler and Ryan Getzlaf scored to force extra time. Kesler eventually capped the comeback by scoring in the second round of the shootout to beat the Los Angeles Kings 6-5. The game was the first meeting between the clubs since the second round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs when the Kings earned a 6-2 win in Game 7 at Honda Center.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Ducks rallied from a multigoal deficit in the final six minutes of regulation to win for the first time in franchise history.

* Elias also says the Ducks last overcame three separate two-goal deficits to win on March 22, 2006, against the Colorado Avalanche when they rallied from 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2 en route to a 5-4 overtime victory.

* Kesler (2-1—3) matched a career high with three points, a feat accomplished 18 times before, most recently in his debut with Anaheim on Oct. 9 at the Pittsburgh Penguins, and has 2-4—6 during his four-game point streak. He ranks third on the club with 14 points (5-9—14). He scored his fifth career game-deciding goal to improve to 12-for-49 (24.5%) in tiebreakers.

* Getzlaf's goal with 1:39 left in the third period (WATCH ) was the fifth game-tying goal in the final two minutes of regulation this season. Getzlaf leads the club with 5-11—16 this season.

* Jason LaBarbera, who relieved Frederik Andersen in the second period, stopped 14 shots and two of three shootout attempts to improve to 2-0-1.

* Jakob Silfverberg equaled a career high with two points (last: Oct. 13 at the Buffalo Sabres). He also tallied in the shootout to boost his career efficiency to 57.1 % (8-for-14).

* Sami Vatanen and Hampus Lindholm each had two assists; Vatanen stretched his point streak to four games (1-4—5), matching his career-high, while Lindholm posted his first multiple-point game since March 18 against the Washington Capitals.

* The Ducks have required extra time in each of their past four games and are to 3-0-3 in their past six games overall. They are 5-0-1 in the past six regular-season games against the Kings. The teams play again Saturday in Los Angeles.

KESSEL POWERS MAPLE LEAFS AGAINST FORMER CLUB

The Toronto Maple Leafs opened a 5-0 lead before the 10-minute mark of the second period, powered by two goals from Phil Kessel (WATCH ), to halt the Boston Bruins' winning streak at five games with a 6-1 victory.

* Toronto has won three straight games and is 6-1-1 in its past eight games overall. It has won four in a row at Air Canada Centre.

* The Maple Leafs scored six goals against the Bruins on home ice for the first time since Nov. 5, 2000, when Garry Valk tallied 1-2—3 to power Toronto to a 7-1 win.

* Kessel found the back of the net against his former team for the first time since March 6, 2012, (0-5—5 in 10 regular-season games since then). He has 5-11—16 in 28 games against the team that traded him in 2009, including two multiple-goal games (the other came Feb. 15, 2011). He is tied with Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning for fourth in the League in goals with 10, and is tied for third with 21 points with Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars).

* James van Riemsdyk (1-2—3) had three points in a game for the ninth time in his career (last: Feb. 27 at the New York Islanders) to stretch his point streak to career-best six games (3-5—8).

* Tyler Bozak also had a goal and two assists to match his personal best with three points (10 times, last: March 10 at Anaheim).

* Cody Franson matched a career high with two assists and two points. He stretched his career-best point streak to five games (1-6—7).

* Peter Holland (1-1—2) had his second straight multiple-point game to stretch his point streak to three games (3-2—5). Leo Komarov (1-3—4) and Dion Phaneuf (0-3—3) also extended point streaks to three games (0-3—3).

Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick (44 saves) stopped 40 or more shots for the fourth time this season; he is 7-0-3 in such games during his career. … Anze Kopitar scored his first career penalty shot goal in three tries; he also attempted the Kings' last penalty shot on Jan. 25 in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at Dodger Stadium against Anaheim's Jonas Hiller. Of the 10 penalty shot attempts this season, three have resulted in goals: Kopitar, Kesler (Oct. 13 at Buffalo) and Taylor Hall of the Edmonton Oilers (Oct. 20 vs. Tampa Bay). Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin had two assists to match the longest point streak of his career (1-4—5, three games) . . . The Maple Leafs scored three power-play goals (3-for-4) in a game for the first time since Nov. 19, 2011, when they went 3-for-5 with the man advantage in a 7-1 win against the Washington Capitals. Toronto is sixth in the League with a 24.1% success rate this season (14-for-58). … Maple Leafs defenseman Stephane Robidas played in his 900th NHL game. . . . Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron extended his point streak to five games (2-5—7).
