DENVER - Maple Leafs forward Daniel Winnik was stretchered off the ice during the first period of Toronto's game against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.
Winnik took a hit from Avalanche defenceman Jan Hejda just outside the Colorado blue-line and fell awkwardly onto his head 45 seconds into the game.
Winnik lay motionless on the ice for a few seconds after the hit but appeared alert as trainers attended to him.
