OVECHKIN BECOMES CAPITALS SCORING LEADER

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin's first of two assists (WATCH ) against Calgary gave him sole possession of first place on the franchise's all-time points list (428-399—826), surpassing Peter Bondra. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he is one of 10 active players to hold a franchise scoring record. Of those 10 players, only five hold their current club's record: Ovechkin, Minnesota's Mikko Koivu (455 points), New Jersey's Patrik Elias (989), San Jose's Patrick Marleau (943) and Vancouver's Henrik Sedin (856).

"Congratulations to Alex Ovechkin on the outstanding achievement of becoming the leading scorer in Washington Capitals history,” said Wayne Gretzky. “He's a tremendous talent with many great years and achievements ahead of him."

* Ovechkin reached the milestone in his 691st career game, 270 fewer than Bondra (472-353—825 in 961 GP). He ranks ninth on the franchise list in games played.

* Ovechkin also holds the Capitals' franchise record for power-play goals (154) and overtime goals (15). He ranks second in goals (428, 44 behind Bondra), game-winning goals (70, three behind Bondra) and assists (399, 19 behind Michal Pivonka).

* Ovechkin is the only player in the NHL to score 30 or more goals in each season since 2005-06. He leads all players in goals and points in that time frame:

ALLEN, CRAWFORD POST SHUTOUTS

Jake Allen (STL) and Corey Crawford (CHI) each backstopped his team to a shutout victory on Tuesday:

* Allen stopped all 26 shots he faced for his second consecutive shutout and Vladimir Tarasenko scored the lone goal to lead the St. Louis Blues past the New Jersey Devils in the first half of a home-and-home set. After beginning the season 2-3-1, the Blues have won six straight games and sit atop the Central Division with 17 points (8-3-1). Allen's personal shutout streak stands at 128:03 (via St. Louis Blues public relations), surpassing his previous mark of 86:18 set from March 12-16, 2013. He has allowed four goals in four games this season (3-1-0, .959 SV%, 1.00 GAA). Tarasenko extended his point streak to three games (4-1—5).

* Crawford (28 saves) had his first shutout of the season and Jonathan Toews (1-1—2) scored his 200th career goal for the game-winner as the Chicago Blackhawks blanked the Montreal Canadiens 5-0 at Bell Centre. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the win was Chicago's first shutout in Montreal since Oct. 27, 1999, when Jocelyn Thibault made 29 saves in a 1-0 victory. Crawford's shutout was the 11th of his career; he improved to 3-0-2 with a 1.40 goals-against average and a .954 save percentage in his career against Montreal. Kris Versteeg scored twice and Bryan Bickell and David Rundblad (career high) each had two assists.

PENS, JETS KEEP STREAKS ALIVE

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Winnipeg Jets each had shutout streaks end but winning streaks continue on Tuesday:

* Thomas Greiss made 33 saves for his first win in a Penguins uniform as Pittsburgh stretched its winning streak to five games with a 4-1 road victory against the Minnesota Wild. Pittsburgh's team shutout streak ended at 205:28 when Nino Niederreiter scored a shorthanded goal at 10:42 of the third period. The shutout streak began in the second period of Pittsburgh's 8-3 home win against the Devils on Oct. 28 and fell 13:20 short of the franchise mark set by Marc-Andre Fleury and Tomas Vokoun from March 24 to April 2, 2013 (via Elias). The Penguins scored 18 consecutive goals during the streak and have outscored opponents 23-4 in their past five games, including three shutouts.

* Evgeni Malkin had an assist to extend his season-long point streak to 11 games (5-11—16). Malkin has three prior point streaks of at least 11 games, including two 15-game stretches (last: 9-15—24 over 15 games, Jan. 16 to March 4, 2010).

* Sidney Crosby had an assist to bring his League-leading point total to 19 (7-12—19); he has 3-7—10 during Pittsburgh's winning streak. Patric Hornqvist (3-4—7, five games), Kris Letang (1-3—4, four games) and Chris Kunitz (5-3—8, four games) also extended their streaks.

* The loss was Minnesota's first home-ice defeat this season (5-1-0).

* Ondrej Pavelec turned aside 23 of 24 shots to help the Jets win their third straight game and stretch their point streak to six games (5-0-1) with a 3-1 victory against the Nashville Predators. Winnipeg's shutout streak ended at 169:44 following back-to-back shutouts against the New York Rangers (Pavelec, 38 saves) and Blackhawks (Michael Hutchinson, 33 saves), establishing a franchise record. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the previous franchise mark was set from Oct. 5-11, 2006, when Kari Lehtonen went 167:56 without allowing a goal when the team was the Atlanta Thrashers.

FLAMES, BRUINS RALLY FOR OT WINS

The Calgary Flames and Boston Bruins each overcame a one-goal deficit en route to overtime victories:

* Markus Granlund knotted the score at 3-3 with 5:10 left in regulation and Sean Monahan potted the overtime winner as the Flames rallied past the Capitals for their third straight win. Captain Mark Giordano scored his fourth goal of the season and assisted on Monahan's winner to stretch his point streak to four games (3-3—6). Monahan (2-2—4, three games), TJ Brodie (1-5—6, four games), Granlund (2-1—3, three games) and Dennis Wideman (0-3—3, three games) also extended point streaks. Lance Bouma scored the game's opening goal as the Flames improved to 6-0-2 when scoring first.

* Flames netminder Jonas Hiller has earned at least a point in his last seven games, including two three-game winning streaks. Overall he is 6-2-1 with a 1.96 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage.

* Brad Marchand assisted on the tying goal in the second period and scored his second overtime goal of the season to lift the Bruins to a 2-1 win against the Florida Panthers. Marchand extended his point streak to three games (4-2—6), a stretch that begin on Oct. 30 at the Buffalo Sabres when he had three points, including the overtime winner. The Bruins have nine consecutive wins overall against the Panthers and are 9-1-0 in their past 10 games against Florida at TD Garden, dating to a 4-0 win on Nov. 18, 2010. Tuukka Rask stopped 18 shots and is 4-1-0 in his past five games.

ROAD RALLY: CANUCKS AND KINGS STAGE COMEBACKS

The Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings each rallied from a deficit to earn a road victory:

* Down 2-0 less than 17 minutes after the opening faceoff, the Canucks scored five unanswered goals – including Henrik Sedin's goal at 19:56 of the second period – en route to a 5-2 win at Pepsi Center. Nick Bonino scored twice in the final period, including his team-leading sixth goal, which stood as his second game-winner of the season. Ryan Miller won his sixth consecutive game and leads the League with nine victories (9-1-0).

* With the Kings trailing 1-0 in the second period, Trevor Lewis scored a shorthanded goal and later added an assisted as the Kings earned their first road win of the season (1-3-2) by beating the Dallas Stars 3-1. Los Angeles leads the League with four shorthanded goals this season (13 GP); the Kings had five all last season14.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS FROM 12-GAME TUESDAY

* Jakub Voracek scored twice, including the game-winning goal, and Steve Mason stopped 35 shots en route to his first win of the season as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-1. Voracek extended his point streak to six games (3-8—11); he ranks second in League scoring with 5-13—18 and has a point in all but one game this season, (a 4-0 loss at Chicago on Oct. 21), including six multiple-point outings. Claude Giroux had his 12th assist of the season, one shy of Voracek and Tampa Bay's Tyler Johnson for the League lead.

* Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn scored his 100th NHL point, with an assist to his brother, Brayden. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it marked just the second time the pair has factored on the same goal; the other came on Oct. 18 when Luke assisted on Brayden's goal.

* Justin Faulk's shorthanded goal in the second period stood as the game-winner and Cam Ward made 17 saves as the Carolina Hurricanes won their third straight game by beating the Columbus Blue Jackets. Riley Nash (1-2—3) and Elias Lindholm (3-2—5) have points in each of the three wins, matching and setting career-high streaks, respectively.

* Erik Karlsson opened the scoring and Patrick Wiercioch broke a 1-1 tie in the third period as the Ottawa Senators improved to 3-0-2 at home by beating the Detroit Red Wings 3-1. Craig Anderson made 31 saves in the victory.

* The Arizona Coyotes opened a 3-0 lead in the opening 26:34 before holding on for a 3-2 win to snap the Toronto Maple Leafs' three-game winning streak. Antoine Vermette's second goal in as many games stood as the game-winner for the Coyotes, who improved to 4-2-0 at home this season.

LOOSE PUCKS

Despite their loss, the Panthers earned a point for the seventh consecutive game (4-0-3), their longest such stretch since an eight-game streak from Nov. 12 to 25, 2009 (via Elias). Florida has yet to lose in regulation on the road this season (2-0-4) . . . Florida's Jussi Jokinen scored his first goal of the season to extend his point streak to five games (1-5—6) . . . Toronto's James van Riemsdyk notched his 100th NHL assist and 200th NHL point . . . Washington's Troy Brouwer (3-1—4, four games), John Carlson (1-3—4, four games) and Nicklas Backstrom (1-5—6, three games) and Marcus Johansson (2-2—4, three games) each extended point streaks . . . Nashville's Mike Ribeiro (0-4—4, four games) and Filip Forsberg (3-2—5, three games) also have points in consecutive contests . . . Dean Lombardi earned his 687th point as Kings general manager, surpassing Dave Taylor for the most overall points in franchise history. Early this season he became the first Kings GM to reach the 300-win plateau . . . Dallas' Trevor Daley (700), Chicago's Niklas Hjalmarsson (400), Florida's Scottie Upshall (500) and Jimmy Hayes (100) played in milestone games . . . The Jets and Devils hosted their Hockey Fights Cancer Nights: the Devils donated $30,000 to its hospital partners; the Jets' fundraising initiatives generated $58,000 for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
