Rangers defenseman McDonagh out 3-4 weeks
Captain Ryan McDonagh will be sidelined 3-4 weeks with a separated shoulder, New York Rangers coach Alain Vigneault told the team's website Sunday.

Captain Ryan McDonagh will be sidelined 3-4 weeks with a separated shoulder, New York Rangers coach Alain Vigneault told the team website Sunday.

McDonagh sustained the injury in the first period of the Rangers' 1-0 shootout loss Saturday to the Winnipeg Jets when he was checked into the boards by Jets forward Evander Kane. The defenseman injured the same shoulder April 1 during a game against the Vancouver Canucks; that injury forced him to miss New York's final five games of the 2013-14 regular season.

McDonagh has three assists in 10 games this season. His 43 points last season led all Rangers defensemen, and his 17 points in 25 Stanley Cup Playoff games led the team.

X-rays for defenseman Kevin Klein (left foot contusion) were negative, according to Newsday. Klein was also injured against Winnipeg and won't play Monday against the St. Louis Blues. Center Derek Stepan (broken left leg) remains day-to-day. He practiced Sunday wearing a non-contact jersey and was ruled out for Monday. Defenseman Dan Boyle (broken hand) also skated with a yellow jersey.

The Rangers also placed forward Ryan Malone on waivers, according to multiple media outlets. Malone, who signed a one-year contract with New York just before training camp started, has no goals and no points in five games.
