Rogers Hometown Hockey celebrates Red Deer
Rogers Hometown Hockey celebrates Red Deer, Alberta this week.

Prior to the telecast of the Calgary Flames against the Montreal Canadiens (7 p.m. ET; CITY), NHL Network will televise the "Rogers Hometown Hockey" broadcast at 6:30 p.m. ET on CITY and the NHL Network in the United States. This week's location is Red Deer, Alberta, to celebrate the city's iconic hockey story.

Among the features airing on the pregame show:

· A look at Los Angeles Kings coach Darryl Sutter's hockey odyssey that includes coaching the Kings to two Stanley Cup wins in three seasons, told from the perspective of his son Chris.

· The odds of 5-foot-10 Flames defenseman Kris Russell making the NHL were slim, but he learned toughness and the inability to quit from his father to defy the odds.

· The hometown Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League is a big ticket in town and one of the league's most famous and successful teams. Owner, general manager and coach Brent Sutter understands hockey's big role in Central Alberta and ensures the Rebels reflect that passion on and off the ice

· "Rogers Hometown Hockey" host Ron MacLean is back in his boyhood home to Red Deer, where he reflects on some of his favorite memories from working as the radio voice of the Red Deer Rustlers and his days at Red Deer College, where he met his wife.

· According to Hockey-Reference.com, there have been 19 players reach the NHL who were born in Red Deer. Matt Fraser of the Boston Bruins, Paul Postma of the Winnipeg Jets and Colton Sceviour of the Dallas Stars are current NHL players and Red Deer natives, while past players include Glenn Wesley, Mark Tinordi and Randy Moller.
