Hurricanes could sit healthy Semin vs. Coyotes
The Carolina Hurricanes are considering making forward Alexander Semin a healthy scratch against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday, coach Bill Peters told the Hurricanes website.

The Carolina Hurricanes are considering making right wing Alexander Semin a healthy scratch against the Arizona Coyotes at PNC Arena on Saturday.

“Right now, he’s not in the lineup,” Carolina head coach Bill Peters said Friday, according to the Hurricanes website. “We’ve got a couple guys back from injury so we’ve got the ability to take some guys out.”

Forwards Nathan Gerbe and Patrick Dwyer are probable for the game against Arizona. Gerbe has missed four games and Dwyer six games, each with a lower-body injury.

Peters said he would confirm his decision regarding Semin on Saturday morning.

Semin has two assists and is minus-7 in eight games for Carolina (0-6-2). Peters benched him in the third period of a 4-1 loss Tuesday to the Vancouver Canucks after Semin was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct with the Hurricanes trailing 3-0.

“He'd played enough,” Peters said after the game. “I don't think we need to take undisciplined penalties when we're trying to dig out of a hole, right? When you're in a hole, quit digging.”

The Hurricanes signed Semin to a five-year, $35 million contract extension in March 2013. He has 35 goals and 86 points in 117 career games with the Hurricanes.

Semin didn't take part in any line rushes on any of the top four lines during the Hurricanes' morning skate Friday.
