A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ACTION TUESDAY

Of the 10 games contested Tuesday:

* Six were tied or within one goal entering the third period.

* Five teams overcame third-period deficits to win, including two game-tying goals with less than 4:00 left in regulation: Red Wings-Canadiens (16:51 by Alex Galchenyuk, MTL) and Lightning-Flames (17:44 by Valtteri Filppula, TBL).

* Four of five games that went past regulation were decided in overtime (Kevin Klein, NYR; David Desharnais, MTL; Brad Boyes, FLA; Ondrej Palat, TBL).

* Two teams -- Chicago (4-0-1) and Nashville (4-0-2) -- extended their season-opening streaks without a regulation loss.

CANADIENS, LIGHTNING STAGE LATE RALLIES EN ROUTE TO OT WINS

Montreal and Tampa Bay each earned a victory after a scoring game-tying goal in the final minutes of regulation.

* Down 1-0 with less than five minutes left in regulation, Alex Galchenyuk scored the tying goal at 16:51 and David Desharnais netted the overtime winner 56 seconds into the extra period to lift the Canadiens to their third consecutive win. At 6-1-0, the Canadiens are off to their best seven-game start since 1977-78, when they started 6-0-1.

* Valtteri Filppula tied the game at 1-1 with 2:16 left in regulation, and Ondrej Palat netted the game-winner 3:00 into overtime as the Lightning rallied for a 2-1 win in Calgary. Evgeni Nabokov made 21 saves for his first win with Tampa Bay. Jonathan Drouin (No. 3 pick in the 2013 NHL Draft) earned his first NHL point with an assist on Filppula’s goal.

RANGERS RALLY FOR OT WIN

Trailing 3-1 in the third period, the Rangers tied the game with two goals in a span of 5:26, including Rick Nash’s tying marker at 14:32, to set the stage for Kevin Klein’s first career overtime goal as New York rallied for its third straight win.

* Nash leads the League with eight goals this season. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Nash's eight goals equal the most by a Rangers player through the team’s first seven games, following Bill Cook (1931-32) and Don Murdoch (1976-77).

* Chris Mueller matched a career-high with two points, including his first NHL goal since March 25, 2013, while with Nashville. His other multipoint game was Jan. 18, 2011, also with the Predators (two assists).

* Ryan McDonagh matched a career-high with two assists, his first two points of the season.

* Henrik Lundqvist made 28 saves to improve to 4-2-0 this season. Lundqvist has played more games (51), recorded more wins (31) and posted more shutouts (8) vs. New Jersey than against any other opponent.

* New York improved to 17-9-3 versus the Devils since March 30, 2009.

LUCIC HELPS BRUINS RALLY PAST SHARKS

With Boston trailing 3-2 after 40 minutes, Milan Lucic tallied his third assist of the night on Seth Griffith's first NHL goal as the Bruins scored three unanswered goals to win 5-3 against the Sharks.

* Lucic matched a career-high with three assists and now has five assists in his past three games. Torey Krug also matched a personal best with three points (one goal, two assists) to extend his point streak to three games (two goals, three assists).

* Tuukka Rask stopped 31 of 34 shots to improve to 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals-against average and .960 save percentage in three career games vs. San Jose.

* Gregory Campbell’s first goal of the season stood as the seventh game-winner of his career.

* David Krejci (one goal, one assist) and Chris Kelly (one assist) extended their point streaks to four games while Zdeno Chara (one assist) recorded a point for the third straight game.

* The Bruins improved to 17-9-5 all-time vs. San Jose, including 9-4-3 in Boston.

KESSEL POWERS MAPLE LEAFS PAST ISLANDERS

With Toronto trailing 2-1 to start the second period, Phil Kessel netted his first of two goals as the Maple Leafs scored four in the period to come back for a 5-2 victory against the Islanders.

* Kessel tallied his first multigoal game since Feb. 1 when he scored a hat trick against Ottawa. He now has 16 goals and 13 assists in 30 career games vs. the Islanders.

* Roman Polak netted his first goal/point with the Maple Leafs and the fifth game-winning tally of his career. Fellow newcomer Mike Santorelli matched a career-high with two assists.

* James van Riemsdyk scored Toronto's opening goal and added an assist for his second multipoint game of the season. He led the Maple Leafs with five assists vs. the Islanders last season.

* This marked the second time this season the Maple Leafs have scored at least four goals in one period in the state of New York – they netted five goals in the middle period of a 6-3 win against the Rangers on Oct. 12.

PREDATORS STAY UNBEATEN

Ryan Ellis recorded a career-high three points (one goal, two assists) and netted the deciding shootout tally as the Predators improved to 4-0-2 this season with a 4-3 win against the Coyotes. James Neal netted the tying goal for the Predators at 8:03 of the third period, 21 seconds after the Coyotes took a 3-2 lead.

* At 4-0-2, Nashville is off to its best start since 2005-06 when the club began the season with eight straight wins.

* Mike Ribeiro scored his third goal of the season and assisted on Neal's tally to extend his point streak to four games (three goals, two assists). Ribeiro, who tallied 16 goals and 31 assists for the Coyotes last season, now has nine goals and 31 assists in 41 career games against Arizona.

EARLY LEADS SPUR TEAMS TO VICTORY

The Stars, Blackhawks, Jets and Panthers all capitalized on early multigoal leads en route to victories.

* Five different scorers sparked the Stars to a 5-0 lead in the opening 21:17, and Kari Lehtonen stopped 43 of 46 shots he faced in Dallas’ 6-3 win against Vancouver. Tyler Seguin (one goal, one assist) and Jamie Benn (one goal, one assist) were two of five Stars with multiple points. Seguin now has four goals and seven assists in six career games against Canucks, and five goals and five assists on his current four-game point streak. Benn has five goals and seven assists in his past eight games vs. Vancouver and four goals and four assists in his past four games overall.

* Brandon Saad (one goal, one assist), Patrick Kane (two goals) and Bryan Bickell (one goal, one assist) combined for three goals in a span of 2:06 in the first period, and Antti Raanta stopped all 32 shots he faced as the Blackhawks improved to 4-0-1 with a 4-0 win over the Flyers.

* Andrew Ladd scored his first goal of the season 1:57 after the opening faceoff, and Adam Lowry's goal 40 seconds later stood as the game-winner as the Jets defeated the Hurricanes 3-1. Lowry’s goal was the first of his career (6 GP).

* Goals by Brandon Pirri and Aleksander Barkov sparked the Panthers to an early 2-0 lead, but Florida needed Brad Boyes' goal at 2:23 of overtime to earn a 4-3 victory in Colorado. Roberto Luongo made 30 saves to record his 375th NHL win and move past John Vanbiesbrouck for 13th on the all-time list. Luongo improved to 13-0-2 in his last 15 decisions against Colorado.
