* The Stars trailed 2-0 before the 10-minute mark of the first period, but Antoine Roussel cut the deficit to 2-1 in the middle frame and Jamie Benn (17:03) (WATCH ) and Tyler Seguin (19:57) (WATCH ) each tallied in the final three minutes to lift Dallas to a 3-2 win at Pittsburgh.

* Derick Brassard's goal at 9:40 of the third period (WATCH ) forced extra time and Rick Nash netted the lone shootout marker as the Rangers capitalized on Henrik Lundqvist's 29 saves to win 2-1 against the Hurricanes.

* The Senators overcame deficits of 2-0, 2-1, 3-1 and 3-2 – powered by four-straight goals by David Legwand, Bobby Ryan, Clarke MacArthur (WATCH ) and Chris Neil – to win 5-3 over the Avalanche in their home opener.

TAVARES, ISLES EXTEND STREAKS

John Tavares had two assists and netted the game-deciding shootout goal as the Islanders improved to 4-0-0 for the third time in franchise history (also 1976-77 and 1987-88).

* Tavares has started the season with four-straight multi-point games, marking the second-longest such streak in franchise history (Mike Bossy in 1984-85, 7 games). He leads the League with seven assists and nine points this season.

* Kyle Okposo (1-1—2) extended his point streak to four games (2-5—7) with his third straight multi-point game. He also netted his fifth career shootout goal. Okposo is tied with six other players, including teammate Brock Nelson (4-3—7), for second in League scoring with seven points.

* The Islanders have won seven straight games dating to last season, marking their longest winning streak since 1989-90 when they won nine straight contests from Dec. 31, 1989 to Jan. 19, 1990.

* The Islanders handed the Sharks their first loss of the season (3-0-1) and improved to 4-6-3 against San Jose since the start of 2001-02.

BENN, SEGUIN LEAD STARS TO RARE WIN IN PITTSBURGH

Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin scored 2:54 apart, including Seguin's game-winning goal with 2.9 seconds left in regulation, to rally the Stars to their second straight victory.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the victory marked the first time since Oct. 20, 2006 that the Stars won in regulation after trailing in the final three minutes. In that game, Dallas trailed Chicago 4-3 before Mike Ribeiro tied the game at 18:46 and Philippe Boucher netted the winning goal at 19:20.

* Elias also says that Seguin's goal was the Stars' latest winning goal in regulation since the team relocated to Dallas in 1993, breaking the previous mark of 19:55 first set by Guy Carbonneau (Oct. 14, 1995 vs. BOS) and matched by Benn (Mar. 1, 2011 vs. PHX).

* The latest regulation winning goal in franchise history was scored by Brian MacLellan at 19:59 of the third period in Minnesota's 2-1 win over the Islanders on Jan. 27, 1988.

* Dallas won its first-ever game at CONSOL Energy Center, snapping a 0-6-0 stretch since its last win in Pittsburgh (8-2 on Dec. 23, 2000).

* Fun Fact: Former Penguin Alex Goligoski (0-2—2) assisted on Seguin's winning goal - one day after the four-year anniversary of his game-winning goal for the Penguins in the team's first-ever win at CONSOL Energy Center (Oct. 15, 2010).

* Jason Spezza assisted on both third period goals for his first multi-point game in a Stars uniform.

Rick Nash had his season-long four-game point streak snapped but scored his 30th career shootout goal – his 12th decisive tally – to lift the Rangers to their first home-ice win of the season.

* Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 of 30 shots he faced in regulation and overtime and all three shootout attempts to improve to 9-1-0 in his last 10 contests versus Carolina, allowing only one goal in six of those games. He holds a 18-9-1 record in 27 career games against the Hurricanes.

* New York improved to 13-2-0 in their last 15 games against Carolina, including seven straight wins at Madison Square Garden. They have earned at least a point in 20 of their last 24 home meetings against the Hurricanes, dating to Nov. 29, 2001 (17-4-3 in that span).

SENATORS RALLY FOR RARE WIN AGAINST AVS

Craig Anderson stopped the final 25 shots he faced as the Senators rallied to beat the Avalanche for the first time since Dec. 12, 2005 (0-4-3 in that span).

* David Legwand (1-1—2) spurred Ottawa's comeback with his first goal in a Senators uniform midway through the second period. Rookie Curtis Lazar recorded his first NHL assist/point on the team's opening goal.

* Kyle Turris assisted on the Legwand's goal to extend his season-long point streak to four games (1-3—4).

* Clarke MacArthur scored his second game-winning goal of the season at 11:43 of the third period. He shared the team lead with five clinching goals in 2013-14 (also Spezza and Turris).

QUICK SHUTS OUT BLUES TO MATCH KINGS RECORD

Jonathan Quick stopped all 43 shots he faced and Jeff Carter scored the lone shootout goal (WATCH ) as the Kings shutout the Blues 1-0.

* Quick's first shutout of the season was the 32nd of his career, tying Rogie Vachon for first on the franchise's all-time list. Last year Quick passed Vachon (171) for first on the franchise's all-time wins list.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Quick's 43 saves match the second-highest total by a Kings goalie in a shutout. Kelly Hrudey had a 43-save shutout on Feb. 15, 1993 vs. VAN. Quick holds the franchise record with 51-save shutout of the Red Wings on Dec. 13, 2010.

* The Kings now have won seven of their past eight regular season match-ups against the Blues dating to 2011-12.

GALLAGHER, PACIORETTY LEAD CANADIENS TO WIN IN PLAYOFF REMATCH

The Original 6 rivals met for the first time since Montreal's series-clinching victory in Game 7 of last year's Second Round playoff series.

* Andre Burakovsky scored his second career goal to extend his point streak to four games (2-3—5). He is the first Capitals rookie since to start his career with at least a four-game point streak since Ovechkin tallied 6-4—10 in eight straight games from Oct. 5 to 20, 2005.
