Carolina Hurricanes captain Eric Staal and forward Patrick Dwyer will not play Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN), coach Bill Peters told the Hurricanes website Monday.
Staal (upper body) and Dwyer (lower body) are day-to-day. Staal has one goal and one assist in two games; in 10 prior seasons he's missed 17 games. Dwyer has one shot on goal in two games.
"It's a long, long year and we're getting hit with some injuries right now," Peters said according to the Raleigh News and Observer. "But you play through it. … The guys were good [Monday] and worked hard and the spirits are fine."
Peters also said center Jeff Skinner, who sustained a concussion during a preseason game Oct. 5 against the Washington Capitals, skated by himself Monday and is close to rejoining the team. He has not played this season after he had a career-best 33 goals last season. He also will not play Tuesday but Peters said Thursday against the New York Rangers.
