OHL Roundup: Sting surpass Spirit in standings with victory at home

SARNIA, Ont. - Davis Brown and Troy Lajeunesse scored first-period goals as the Sarnia Sting beat the Saginaw Spirit 3-1 in Ontario Hockey League action on Friday.

Pavel Zacha rounded out the attack for the Sting (2-3-1).

Luke Cairns supplied the only offence for Saginaw (2-3-0) on a power-play goal in the third period.

Justin Fazio made 25 saves for the win, while Saginaw's Jake Paterson suffered the loss after stopping 37 shots.

OTTERS 8 RANGERS 3

KITCHENER, Ont. — OHL leading scorer Connor McDavid had two goals and two assists to power the Erie offence past Kitchener.

Alex DeBrincat also struck twice for Erie (5-0-0), and Kyle Maksimovich, Mason Marchment, Taylor Raddysh and Troy Donnay rounded out the attack.

Ryan MacInnis, Brent Pedersen and Frank Hora each had goals for Kitchener (2-3-0).

STEELHEADS 5 FRONTENACS 1

KINGSTON, Ont. — Nathan Bastian found the back of the net twice to lead Mississauga over Kingston.

Brandon Devlin, Jesse Barwell and Sam Babintsev also scored for the Steelheads (3-1-0).

Spencer Watson scored his second goal of the season for Kingston (2-3-0).

GUELPH, Ont. — Stephen Pierog scored on the power play at 3:20 of overtime to lift Guelph over North Bay.

Tyler Bertuzzi and Pius Suter had second-period goals for the Storm (4-1-0).

Jared Steege and Kyle Wood both struck on the power play in the third period for North Bay (2-0-3).

COLTS 4 KNIGHTS 3

LONDON, Ont. — Mackenzie Blackwood turned aside 47 shots as Barrie edged London.

Garrett Hooey and Rasmus Andersson each scored twice for Barrie (4-1-1).

Christian Dvorak had a pair of goals for the Knights (1-4-0) and Matt Rupert also scored. Tyler Parsons kicked out 34 shots in the loss.

67's 4 ICEDOGS 3

OTTAWA — Dante Salituro had a hat trick to lead Ottawa in a comeback win over Niagara.

Erik Bradford also scored for the 67's (1-4-0), who picked up their first win of the season.

Cody Payne and Matt Gillard scored just over a minute apart in the second period for Niagara (0-4-0). Carter Verhaeghe also had a goal for the IceDogs.

ATTACK 8 WOLVES 2

SUDBURY, Ont. — Klye Platzer and Petrus Palmu had a pair of goals apiece as Owen Sound downed Sudbury.

Daniel Milne, Santino Centorame, Holden Cook and Justin Brack also scored for the Attack (4-1-0).

Jeff Corbett and Nathan Pancel both had power-play goals for the Wolves (1-6-0).

GENERALS 5 WHALERS 3

OSHAWA, Ont. — Oshawa scored four straight goals in the third period en route to a win over Plymouth.

Michael Dal Colle had two goals and an assist, Hunter Smith scored twice, and Tobias Lindberg also scored for the Generals (5-0-1).

Connor Chatham, Bryce Yetman and Gianluca Curcuruto all found the back of the net for Plymouth (2-3-1).
