The St. Louis Blues and forward Peter Mueller have mutually agreed to terminate his contract so that he can pursue other hockey options in Europe, according to the Blues' Twitter account.
Mueller, 26, had 24 goals and 46 points in 49 games for Kloten in Switzerland's top professional league last season. The native of Bloomington, Minn., signed a one-year, two-way contact with the Blues in July.
Following his season in Switzerland, the 6-foot-2, 209-pound forward was invited to play for the United States at the 2014 IIHF World Championship; he had one goal and four points in eight games.
In 297 career NHL regular-season games with the Phoenix Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers, Mueller has 63 goals and 160 points. He had a career-high 54 points (22 goals, 32 assists) as a rookie with the Coyotes in 2007-08.
The Blues open the regular season Thursday against the New York Rangers at Scottrade Center.
