The San Jose Sharks have not announced who their starting goalie will be in the season opener at the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday.
Coach Todd McLellan had not revealed if it would be last season's No. 1 Antti Niemi or Alex Stalock, the San Jose Mercury News reported Tuesday.
"They both have come back and worked extremely hard in training camp," McLellan told the newspaper. "Again, they'll be judged just like the rest of us on their performances moving forward. Training camp doesn't get you anything. But based on the information we have, they've worked hard, they are in excellent condition. They have supported each other."
According to the Mercury News, Stalock had a 1.68 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage in three preseason games. Niemi had a 2.23 GAA and a .909 save percentage in three games, including a 4-1 loss to the Kings on Sept. 30.
Niemi started the first five games of the Western Conference First Round, though he was relieved in Games 4 and 5 by Stalock, who started Game 6.
The Sharks led the best-of-7 series 3-0 before losing Game 7, 5-1, with Niemi in net.
