Goaltender Martin Brodeur remains without an NHL job with the season about to begin, and the League's winningest goalie said he's prepared to enter retirement if one is not offered.
"Hopefully I'll have an opportunity but if it doesn't happen it's not the end of the world," Brodeur said, according to The Associated Press. "I've played a lot of hockey and I'm enjoying my time off right now. I've never done that in my life so it's kind of nice to do, but just coming back and playing hockey for two days I know I still have it and it's still inside of me to want to play a little more if I can."

Brodeur this week spent time working out with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where his son Anthony Brodeur is playing this season.
Martin Brodeur was not re-signed by the New Jersey Devils this summer because they decided to make Cory Schneider their No. 1 goaltender. Brodeur said repeatedly his preference was to be a No. 1 goalie somewhere or play for a Stanley Cup contender.
"If I'm not going to play a lot I'd like to have a chance to win every time I jump between the pipes," he told the AP. "There are places I really don't want to go, but there are other places I wouldn't mind going. There will be a couple nice fits out there if it happens."
Brodeur, who turned 42 on May 6, has said he expected the 2014-15 season would be his last. Last season he was 19-14-6 with a 2.51 goals-against average and .901 save percentage in 39 games. His 688 regular-season victories and 124 shutouts are NHL records.
He said if he is unable to add to those totals, he's fine with that.
"This is something I've prepared for," he said. "I've asked a lot of questions to my buddies that are retired. ... The future doesn't scare me at all."
