BUFFALO, N.Y. - Buffalo Sabres prospect centre Mikhail Grigorenko is heading back to the minors for more seasoning.
The Sabres announced Monday that they assigned Grigorenko and forward Zac Dalpe to their American Hockey League affiliate in Rochester. It's the latest setback for Grigorenko, who has had difficulty breaking into the Sabres' lineup since being selected in the first round of the 2012 draft.
He has three goals and five assists in 43 career games split over the past two seasons in Buffalo.
In January, Grigorenko grew so frustrated with his role in Buffalo that he briefly balked at being demoted to his Canadian junior team in Quebec City. Grigorenko eventually accepted the demotion a few days later.
Dalpe, who was signed in free agency in July, must first clear waivers.
