Winnipeg Jets healing in time for regular season opener next week

WINNIPEG - Coach Paul Maurice says the Winnipeg Jets are edging back to full health with their final pre-season game in their sights Saturday.

Forward Dustin Byfuglien was back on the ice today along with a number of the team's veterans but Maurice says Byfuglien still won't play Saturday against the visiting Calgary Flames.

Maurice says he's likely missed too much ice time to play big minutes right away in Winnipeg's top six as planned.

Jets scoring leader Blake Wheeler was also back on the ice.

He's on a new line with Mark Scheifele and Evander Kane but says they still have work to do and need to simplify things a little.

He says you can't expect instant magic when three players are thrown together for the first time but they have the potential to create a lot of offence.
