Country Music star Tim Hicks joins The Tragically Hip for NHL season-opening event at Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto on Oct. 8.

TORONTO/NEW YORK -- Canadian country music star and two-time Juno Award nominee Tim Hicks will treat hockey fans in Toronto to his good time anthems when he takes the stage at the 2014 Molson Canadian NHL Face-Off™ hockey and music festival on October 8, the National Hockey League announced today. Hicks joins fellow Canadians and headline performer, The Tragically Hip, in a free outdoor celebration kicking off the start of the 2014-15 season at Yonge-Dundas Square. The fun begins at 12 p.m. with the day's event hosted by Rachel Bonnetta (currently a reporter for Toronto FC; YTV's The Zone; and KICK TV), and Juno nominated Canadian musician and actor Shawn Singleton (Four Brothers; Get Rich or Die Tryin').

Hicks' performance, presented by SiriusXM Canada at Yonge-Dundas Square, will take place during the 1st intermission of the Maple Leafs-Canadiens game. In 2013, after 200,000-plus downloads, Hicks became the #1 highest selling digital Canadian Country Artist of the Year as well as the Most Played Debut Artist overall at Country radio. Since, Hicks has been honored with a 2014 Canadian Country Music Association Award for Rising Star, 2014 Juno Award nominations for Breakthrough Artist and Country Album of the Year, a 2014 Canadian Radio Music Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and a Country Music Association of Ontario Award for Male Artist of the Year. Hicks is currently on tour with fellow hockey fan and U.S. country artist Dierks Bentley.

Before the musical portion of the festivities, NHL legends Wendel Clark, Darryl Sittler and Joe Nieuwendyk will lead the Scotiabank NHL Alumni Q&A and autograph sessions throughout the day.
