Defenceman Ryan Murphy has goal and assist, Hurricanes beat Islanders 4-2

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Defenceman Ryan Murphy had a goal and an assist and Drew MacIntyre made 24 saves to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the New York Islanders 4-2 in an exhibition game Wednesday night.

Murphy opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 8:29 of the first, beating goalie Jaroslav Halak. Jeff Skinner, Nathan Gerbe and Andrej Sekera also scored for Carolina.

Ryan Strome and Casey Cizikas scored for New York. Islanders captain John Tavares played for the first time since sustaining a season-ending knee injury in the Olympics.
