Canadiens to retire Lapointe's jersey on Nov. 8
Guy Lapointe, a six-time Stanley Cup champion, will have his No. 5 retired by the Montreal Canadiens in a ceremony at bell Centre on Nov. 8.

Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Guy Lapointe will have his No. 5 raised to the rafters at Bell Centre as part of a ceremony prior to the Nov. 8 game against the Minnesota Wild, the Canadiens announced Friday.

Lapointe, who works as a scout for the Wild, will become the 18th player in franchise history to have his number retired and the first since Emile Bouchard's No. 3 and Elmer Lach's No. 16 were retired on Dec. 4, 2009.

Lapointe was a member of six Stanley Cup-winning teams while playing from the Canadiens from 1968-82. He scored 171 goals and 622 points in 884 regular-season games and had a plus-329 rating. He had 26 goals and 70 points in 123 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
