Capitals' Ovechkin '100 percent' recovered from injury
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin says the knee injury he sustained during the 2014 IIHF World Championship is completely healed and he's ready for training camp

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin said Thursday he is recovered fully from the right knee injury he sustained in May while playing for Russia at the 2014 IIHF World Championship in Belarus.

Ovechkin has been working out for the past month. The Capitals begin training camp Sept. 19.

"My knee doesn't bother me," Ovechkin told The Associated Press. "Everything feels fine and 100 percent."

Ovechkin was injured when he was hip-checked by Germany's Marcus Kink during a preliminary-round game but returned for the playoff round of the tournament. Ovechkin had an assist in a semifinal win against Sweden and scored to help Russia defeat Finland in the gold-medal game. He finished with four goals and seven assists, and had a team-high 52 shots on goal in nine games.

"As soon as World Champions was done, like, time moved so fast," Ovechkin told the Washington Times. "Right now I'm back here and we're talking about new year, but I remember when we talked about last [year]. We didn't make the playoff and all that kind of stuff. Time to move forward."

Ovechkin's 51 goals led the NHL in 2013-14, the fifth time he scored at least 50.
