Back pain forces Alfredsson to stop skating: report
Free agent right wing Daniel Alfredsson has stopped skating because of pain in his back, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday.

Free agent right wing Daniel Alfredsson has stopped skating because of pain in his back, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday.

Alfredsson, who played last season with the Detroit Red Wings, has not decided if he will play another season but has been training with that goal in mind. Red Wings general manager Ken Holland told St. James that Alfredsson "felt a little bit of a tweak" last week.

Alfredsson, 41, tied for the Red Wings lead with 49 points last season, his first in Detroit after spending 17 seasons with the Ottawa Senators.

"It's possible he comes to camp without a contract," Holland told the newspaper. "We'll see what happens over the next week."
