Agent says Brodeur looking for 700 wins: report
The agent for Martin Brodeur said Tuesday one reason the free-agent goaltender is looking for a team rather than retiring is he wants to reach 700 wins.

The agent for Martin Brodeur said Tuesday one reason the free-agent goaltender is looking for a team rather than retiring is he wants to reach 700 wins.

"He's 12 wins away from 700 and those are things he wants to accomplish," Pat Brisson told Northjersey.com. "He'd like to play on a team that will have a chance to go far as well. Right now I don't have the perfect script. However, I'm OK with it because, based on experience, all teams are going for the Stanley Cup when camp opens and three weeks later they realize that there's missing pieces here and there."

Brodeur, who left the New Jersey Devils after they decided on Cory Schneider as their No. 1 goaltender, previously said he wanted to be the starter somewhere or play for a Stanley Cup contender. Last week Brodeur said he would listen if the Montreal Canadiens wanted him to back up Carey Price.

"Both physically and mentally Marty is ready to have another season," Brisson said. "Training camps are starting next week. There's no rush. However, once training camp opens and once the season opens in early October, there's going to be opportunities, I believe, for Marty. It may come early. It may come a little later. … If you look at every season there's always a situation that is not perfect. Perhaps a goaltender will get an injury or a goalie that doesn't start off the season on the right foot."

Brodeur, who turned 42 on May 6, has said he expected the 2014-15 season would be his last. Last season he was 19-14-6 with a 2.51 goals-against average and .901 save percentage in 39 games. His 688 regular-season victories and 124 shutouts are NHL records.

"He's comfortable with the situation," Brisson said. "He's good with it and he's ready to explore and see what makes sense."
