Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Kasperi Kapanen, the 22nd pick of the 2014 NHL Draft, will not participate with the team this weekend at a rookie tournament in London, Ontario, due to an injury sustained in the summer. However, the team said Kapanen is expected to be ready when training camp opens.
The Penguins did not specify the injury, but Kapanen told reporters he broke a finger when he fell into the boards Aug. 8 during Finland's game against Sweden at the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.
"Just fell head-first into the boards and I got my hand in the way," Kapanen said that day. "Luckily. I'd rather have a broken finger than a broken neck. I'll take that any day."
The Penguins will face the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks in the rookie tournament, which starts with a game Sept. 13 against the Senators.
