Penguins sign forward Carcillo to tryout contract
The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Daniel Carcillo to a professional tryout contract, the team announced Thursday.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Daniel Carcillo to a professional tryout contract, the team announced Thursday.

Carcillo, 29, broke into the professional ranks with the Penguins organization after being chosen by Pittsburgh in the third round (No. 73) of the 2003 NHL Draft. He played two seasons (2005-07) with the Penguins' American Hockey League affiliate, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and had 54 points (32 goals, 22 assists) and 494 penalty minutes in 103 games.

"It's exciting to go back there and try to earn a job," Carcillo told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I think I can definitely get a contract out of training camp."

Carcillo (6 feet, 200 pounds) has played nine NHL seasons, beginning with the Phoenix Coyotes in 2006-07. He also has played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers.

Carcillo split last season between the Kings and Rangers. He had four goals and one assist with 100 penalty minutes in 57 regular-season games, and two goals in eight Stanley Cup Playoff games, helping the Rangers advance to the Stanley Cup Final, where they lost to the Kings in five games.

A native of King City, Ontario, Carcillo helped Chicago win the Stanley Cup in 2013. He has played in three of the past five Stanley Cup Finals; 2014 with the Rangers, 2013 with Chicago and 2010 with Philadelphia.

"The experience of being in the Cup Finals three of the past five years, there's something to be said about having success," Carcillo's agent, Kevin Epp, told Triblive.com. "You know what it takes to win and what you need to do."

Carcillo has played in 390 regular-season games and has 44 goals, 48 assists, 92 points and 1,179 penalty minutes. He has seven goals, seven assists and 97 penalty minutes in 45 playoff games.
