Former NHL all-star defenceman Carol Vadnais dies at age 68

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Former NHL defenceman and six-time all-star Carol Vadnais died Sunday at 68 years old.

Vadnais made his NHL debut in 1966-67 with his hometown Montreal Canadiens and went on to play 17 seasons with the California Golden Seals, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils.

He won the Stanley Cup twice, once with Montreal in 1968 and again with Boston in 1972.

The six-time all-star had 169 goals and 587 points in 1,087 games.

Vadnais also contributed during his 106 playoff games with 10 goals and 40 assists.

Quote of the Day

I spent a long summer thinking about that playoff series and what could have been. [The Blackhawks] ended up being the Stanley Cup champions, so we know we lost to a very good team. It's tough to know how close we were, and it motivates us for this year.

— Nashville captain Shea Weber in an interview with the Predators website
