Pearn, 63, has worked 19 NHL seasons as an assistant coach with the Ottawa Senators, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets. He spent the past two seasons as an assistant in Winnipeg, where his NHL coaching career began in 1995-96.

"We are very excited to name Perry to our staff today," Canucks general manager Jim Benning said. "Perry brings a wealth of experience and knowledge at the NHL level to our organization."

Pearn won two gold medals as an assistant coach with Canada's national junior team at the IIHF World Junior Championship (1990, 1991), and a third as coach in 1993. His international coaching career started in 1986 as an assistant coach for Canada's Under-18 team.
