Luc Robitaille will be honored this season by the Los Angeles Kings with a statue in Star Plaza at Staples Center as part of their Legends Night Series.

Robitaille, a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame who scored 668 goals in a career that saw him spend 14 of his 19 NHL seasons with the Kings, is scheduled to be honored prior to the March 7 game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The statue, to be created by renowned artists Julie Rotblatt Amrany and Omri Amrany, will join other iconic sculptures of celebrated Los Angeles sports superstars including Wayne Gretzky and Earvin "Magic" Johnson.

In addition, the Kings will also pay tribute to Tony Granato and Barry Melrose during the 2014-15 season. Granato played parts of seven seasons for the Kings and scored a career-high 82 points for the 1992-93 team that went to the Stanley Cup Final.

That team was coached by Melrose, who will be honored on Feb. 12 before the Kings face the Calgary Flames. Granato will be honored on Feb. 24 prior to a game against the Detroit Red Wings. The Kings will wear their vintage jerseys during all three games in the Legends Night Series.

Past honorees of the Legends Night Series include Rogie Vachon, Bob Berry, Bob Pulford, Bernie Nicholls, Daryl Evans, Charlie Simmer, Kelly Hrudey, Ian Laperriere, Jay Wells, Jim Fox and Larry Murphy.

Quote of the Day

For six months, it's a really good accomplishment. But as soon as April [11, the end of the regular season] comes around, no one thinks about the regular season anymore. For six months, it's a real battle to get into the playoffs in the NHL these days. There are a lot of good teams, and it takes consistency over a long time.
