Subban's agent: deal with Canadiens can be reached
The agent for Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban believes there is time left for the sides to agree to a new contract before their arbitration hearing scheduled for Friday

P.K. Subban's agent said Wednesday he believes there is time to reach a deal with the Montreal Canadiens before an arbitration hearing scheduled for Friday.

"There's always enough time in that respect," Don Meehan told Sportsnet 590 The Fan's "Prime Time Sports," according to TheScore.com.

"In terms of this negotiation we've been at it for some time now," Meehan also said. "Both sides have worked very hard, a number of people on both sides have contributed their thoughts and theories and views in relation to this whole process.

"So I think through a collective means, through everyone contributing, there's always time to do that."

Meehan added, "We're all trying to do our best to see if we can come up with something that makes sense from both side's point of view."

Subban said last week he was "adamant on remaining in Montreal and being a Montreal Canadien, and not just for a long time but hopefully for the rest of my career, and be a lifer there."

Subban, a 25-year-old restricted free agent, earned $3.75 million, with a $2.875 million NHL salary-cap charge, in the final season of a two-year contract. He tied for fifth among NHL defensemen last season with 53 points in 82 games and led the Canadiens with 14 points in the Stanley Cup Playoffs while averaging 27:26 of ice time per game.
