Forward Daniel Winnik signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team announced Monday. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Craig Custance of ESPN.com reported Winnik will make $1.3 million.

Winnik, 29, had career highs in assists (24) and points (30) in 76 games for the Anaheim Ducks last season. He also had one assist and two penalty minutes while averaging 13:36 of ice time in nine Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Quote of the Day

It's very special, obviously; there is draft day and then there's the day that you sign your first deal. It's been a crazy couple of weeks and I'm very honored to be able to do that."
