Jets sign defenceman Keaton Ellerby to one-year, two-way contract

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenceman Keaton Ellerby to a one-year, two-way contract worth US$700,000.

The 25-year-old from Strathmore, Alta., played in 51 games with the Jets last season recording six points (two goals, four assists) and two penalty minutes.

The Jets claimed Ellerby off of waivers from the Los Angeles Kings on Nov. 2.

He has 26 points (four goals, 22 assists) and 88 penalty minutes in 211 career games with Florida, Los Angeles, and Winnipeg. He's also played in 150 career AHL games with the Rochester Americans, recording 47 points (11 goals, 36 assists) and 86 penalty minutes.

He was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers in the first round, 10th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Quote of the Day

I watched many times this year the series between the Russians and Canada in 1972, and he was a dominating player there. After I watched the tapes, I respect him a lot more because he turned the series around. He was the guy. In that time, he was the best in the world. It’s a big honor for me to tie him.
