Leafs avoid arbitration with Franson, sign him to $3.3M, 1-year deal

TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs and Cody Franson have avoided arbitration with a one-year contract worth US$3.3 million.

It's the third straight one-year deal for Franson, who missed most of training camp last season after a contract dispute.

With this one, the 26-year-old gets a raise from the $2 million he made in 2013-14, when he led all Toronto defencemen with 33 points.

Franson, a third-round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2005, has 28 goals and 105 assists in 333 career NHL games.

Quote of the Day

That's a really tough thing to play through; when you finally are thrown out there, the game is fast, intense, every single play matters, you've got to find a way to play through that and make smart plays. So it's a huge testament to [Vermette] and some other individuals in our locker room that are putting their own ego, their own wants and needs aside, and are ready for those opportunities when they do come.
