Penguins re-sign Megna, Samuelsson
The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Jayson Megna to a one-year, two-way contract.

Forward Jayson Megna re-signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, agreeing to a one-year, two-way contract worth $874,125 at the NHL level.

The Penguins also re-signed defenseman Philip Samuelsson to a one-year, two-way contract with an average annual value of $550,000 at the NHL level.

Megna, 24, made his NHL debut on Oct. 25, 2013 against the New York Islanders and earned his first points, one goal and one assist, three days later against the Carolina Hurricanes. He had five goals, four assists and nine points in 36 regular-season games and went pointless in two Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Signed by the Penguins as an undrafted free agent in August 2012, Megna has 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) in 81 games and eight points (three goals, five assists) in 25 playoff games with Pittsburgh's American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Last season, Megna had 15 points (nine goals, six assists) in 25 regular-season games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and three points (one goal, two assists) in 13 AHL playoff games to help it reach the conference finals for the second straight year.

Megna played one season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (2011-12), where he was third on the team with 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) and was voted to the WCHA All-Rookie Team. He played two seasons for Cedar Rapids in the United States Hockey League.

Samuelsson, 22, made his NHL debut with the Penguins on Dec. 16 against the Toronto Maple Leafs and appeared in five games. He and his father, two-time Stanley Cup champion Ulf Samuelsson, became the fifth father-son duo to play for the Penguins.

Seclted in the second round (No. 61) of the 2009 NHL Draft, Samuelsson had 22 points (three goals, 19 assists) and a career-high plus-17 rating in 64 games last season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and an assist in eight postseason games. He played two seasons at Boston College, where he helped the Eagles win the NCAA national championship as a freshman in 2010.
