CBJ sign Weber to a one-year, two way contract Wednesday

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed defenseman Will Weber to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Selected by the Blue Jackets in the second round (No. 53) of the 2007 NHL Draft, Weber, 25, has 10 points (three goals, seven assists), 182 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating in 123 games with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League. The 6-foot-4, 231-pound defenseman had 14 penalty minutes in eight games with the Evansville Icemen of the ECHL.

A native of Gaylord, Mich., Weber spent four seasons at Miami (Ohio) University, where he had 30 points (five goals, 25 assists), 236 penalty minutes and a plus-15 rating in 154 games from 2008-12. He won a CCHA championship with the RedHawks in 2011 and was named the conference's best defensive defenseman in 2010.

Quote of the Day

It's pretty crazy, but believe me when I say we didn't draft these players with the mindset we had to because they had good hockey-playing dads. It just turned out that way. But we're certainly glad they're a part of our organization.
