Chicago Blackhawks sign forwards Toews and Kane to eight-year extensions

CHICAGO - The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with forwards Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane on eight-year contract extensions.

The deals run through the 2022-'23 NHL season.

The team says a formal news conference will be held next week at the United Center.

Toews has served as captain of the Blackhawks for the last six years while Kane is a three-time all-star.

Both players helped Chicago to Stanley Cup victories in 2010 and 2013.

The Blackhawks did not release financial terms of the extensions.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
