Capitals sign Kennedy, Newbury to two-way contracts
Forwards Tim Kennedy and Kris Newbury signed one-year, two-way contracts with the Washington Capitals, the team announced Friday.

Forwards Tim Kennedy and Kris Newbury each signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Washington Capitals, the team announced Friday.

Kennedy has played 162 NHL games, including 37 with the Arizona Coyotes in 2013-14. He had two goals and eight points for the Coyotes, and has 15 goals and 39 points in the NHL for four different teams. The 28-year-old was drafted by the Capitals in 2005 (No. 181), but was traded to the Buffalo Sabres for the draft pick Washington used on Mathieu Perreault.

Newbury, 32, has played 76 NHL games, but never more than 28 in one season. He has played for four NHL teams, including four games for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2013-14. He finished last season with the Hershey Bears, Washington's American Hockey League affiliate.

Each player is likely to begin next season with the Bears.
