Devils' Volchenkov to get compliance buyout: report
The New Jersey Devils reportedly will use a compliance buyout on defenseman Anton Volchenkov

The New Jersey Devils placed defenseman Anton Volchenkov on waivers Monday with the intent of using their second compliance buyout on the remaining two years on his contract, according to multiple media reports.

Volchenkov, 32, is owed $4.25 million each of the next two seasons as part of a six-year contract he signed with the Devils prior to the 2010-11 season.

He had eight assists in 56 games last season. He led the Devils with 129 hits and was second with 91 blocked shots.

Volchenkov was the 21st pick in the 2000 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators, for whom he played the first seven seasons of his career. He has 19 goals and 126 points in 650 regular-season games for the Senators and Devils. Volchenkov has been to the Stanley Cup Final with the 2007 Senators and the 2012 Devils, and has four goals and 17 points in 85 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The Devils used their first compliance buyout on the contract of goaltender Johan Hedberg after the 2012-13 season.
