Sharks give qualifying offers to RFAs Demers, Wingels, Sheppard, Tennyson, Doherty, Sateri

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Sharks have issued qualifying offers to restricted free agent defenceman Jason Demers, forwards Tommy Wingels and James Sheppard and three other players.

Defencemen Matt Tennyson and Taylor Doherty and goalie Harri Sateri also got qualifying offers Monday, giving the Sharks the right to match any offer in free agency or get compensation in return.

Defencemen Sena Acolatse, Adam Comrie and Nick Petricki; and forwards Brodie Reid, Sebastian Stalberg and Marek Viedensky are unrestricted free agents after not getting qualifying offers.

Defenceman Scott Hannan and forward Bracken Kearns will be unrestricted free agents on Tuesday and the Sharks have also bought out forward Marty Havlat's contract to make him an unrestricted free agent.

Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
