McGinn signs two-year contract with Avalanche
Forward Jamie McGinn on Thursday signed a two-year contract to remain with the Colorado Avalanche.

The Colorado Avalanche on Thursday signed forward Jamie McGinn to a two-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed by the team, but ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reports that McGinn will earn $2.9 million next season and $3 million in 2015-16.

McGinn had 19 goals and a career-high 38 points in 79 regular-season games for the Avalanche in 2013-14. He had two goals and five points in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games.

"Very excited to announce I will be an Avalanche for the next two years," McGinn said via his Twitter account.

The 25-year-old would have become a restricted free agent July 1.

“Jamie is coming off a very good season and played an important role for our team,” Avalanche executive vice president of hockey operations Joe Sakic said in a statement. “We’re excited to have him under contract for another two years."

McGinn was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the second round (No. 36) of the 2006 NHL Draft and was acquired by the Avalanche on Feb. 27, 2012. He has 65 goals and 122 points in 347 regular-season games, including 38 goals and 73 points in 143 games with Colorado.

Quote of the Day

This is a great day for me. This is something I've been thinking about for a long time. This is a great opportunity that the St. Louis Blues organization, (owner) Tom Stillman and Doug Armstrong are giving me and trusting me in doing...This is going to be a great challenge for me.
