Sather, Rangers honored by New York State Assembly
The New York State Assembly on Wednesday honored New York Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather, assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld and three players after the franchise's first trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 20 years.

The New York State Assembly on Wednesday honored New York Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather, assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld and three players after the franchise's first trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 20 years.

But Sather, who won five Cups as coach and GM of the Edmonton Oilers from 1984-90, told the New York Daily News that, "I feel like [longtime No. 2 car rental company] Avis," after the Assembly passed a resolution honoring the Rangers for making the Final for the first time since winning the Cup in 1994.

The Rangers lost to the Los Angeles Kings in five games.

Sather, Schoenfeld and players Martin St. Louis, Derek Stepan and Dominic Moore were praised by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, a season-ticket holder. They also met privately with Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Though this team came up short after losing three overtime games in the Final, Sather said the experience this spring ranked with any that he had in Edmonton.

"I told them I was as proud of [this] bunch of guys as I had been for any of the seven times I'd been in the Finals," Sather said, according to the Daily News. "These guys worked very hard through a lot of tough stuff. ... They competed and it was like a real closely knit family. They never gave up once. I was very proud of them."
