The goal scored by Los Angeles Kings defenseman Alec Martinez to win the Stanley Cup in double overtime against the New York Rangers has been immortalized on the regional cover of the latest issue of Sports Illustrated.

SI's new edition shows Martinez's one-timer off the rebound of a Tyler Toffoli shot beating Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist in the second overtime of Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on June 13, and features the headline: "Make It Reign: The Kings Are A Rising Dynasty Built to Last."

It's the third time in recent weeks the NHL has graced the cover of SI; the previous issue featured a split shot of the Rangers-Kings series and the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat. A few weeks earlier, a shot of Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh celebrating a goal against the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Final teased an article about New York's magic postseason.

Quote of the Day

He seemed to thrive on his own and didn't really need any push from me. I certainly don't want to get in the way of the coaches. You see how that goes sometimes. I never really worried about it and just enjoyed the ride.
