Canadiens' Markov seeking three-year deal: report
Montreal Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov, who can become an unrestricted free agent July 1, reportedly is seeking a three-year contract worth $18 million.

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov, who can become an unrestricted free agent July 1, is seeking a three-year contract, TSN's Bob McKenzie reported Monday.

Injuries limited the 35-year-old to 65 games between 2010 and 2012, but Markov appeared in all 48 games last season and missed one game in 2013-14. He had seven goals and 36 assists in 81 games this season and added 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in 17 Stanley Cup Playoff games. The Canadiens lost to the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final in six games.

Markov is seeking $18 million over three years, according to McKenzie. He averaged $5.75 million per season over the contract that's about to expire, also a three-year deal.

Markov has 98 goals and 344 assists in 765 NHL games, all with the Canadiens.
